Ntchisi to get 81 primary school teachers

Government, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is set to deploy 81 newly recruited primary school teachers to Ntchisi.

Jimusole: Ministry of Education is set to deploy 81 newly recruited primary school teachers

District Commissioner (DC) Peter Jimusole disclosed this during a full council meeting on Thursday when responding to concerns by councilors that the district had inadequate primary school teachers.

The councilors noted that the district had few teachers compared to other districts, a development which they said was lowering the quality of education.

However, DC Jimusole told the council that government had already earmarked 81 teachers ready to be posted to the district to address the shortage of teachers the district was facing.

“These teachers have been deployed to teach in different schools within Ntchisi. We believe the coming of these teachers will reduce the high teacher to pupil ratios and help uplift education standards in the district,” said Jimusole.

Councilor Frackson Sefasi however, noted that newly recruited teachers shun to teach in rural areas.

“It’s sad that some teachers don’t want to work in the rural areas but prefer working in the urban areas where life is said to be better. When these teachers are posted to rural areas they don’t want to go there, leaving learners suffering,” Sephasi said.

Commenting on the matter Senior Chief Kasakula said the deployment of additional teachers in Ntchisi was a good development and asked the council to allocate them good houses so that they can deliver well.
