Nyasa Bullets qualify for round of 16 Malawi Presidential Cup
Nyasa Big Bullets became the latest team to reach the round of 16 of the Presidential Football Cup following a 3-0 nil win over Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Marine at the Kamuzu Stadium on a Wednesday afternoon.
Rising Mike Mkwate opened the scoring as early as 12 minutes into the first half but the MDF team was quick to react with better ball possession despite failing to find the net. Andrew Phiri and Samuel Botomani were a marvel to watch for the Southern region premier division side but their efforts could not produce the goals.
Midway the first half, Bullets Coach Franco Ndawa made a substitution taking off George Nyirenda for Davie Ng’ambi. Nyirenda was not happy with decision as he showed it through his gesture and action. His actions did not please Bullets fans who booed him when he went down the tunnel.
Nyirenda’s substitution made immediate impact as his replacement had an assist towards Bullets second goal with Chiukepo Msowoya on the score-sheet towards the end of the first half.
Marine began the second half a better team between the two but just like they did in the first half could not turn their chances into goals.
Both teams made several substitutions in the second half but it was Bullets who were on the scoresheet again, this time around Muhammad Sulumba tapping in from a Chiukepo Msowoya neat pass.
After the game, Bullets Technical Director Billy Tewesa was pleased with the result and could not hide his excitement.
“We are delighted with the progress. We made several changes to the team that played against MAFCO and it proved positive. We are focusing ahead and hope to win the competition,” said Tewesa.
Asked on what action the team will take on George Nyirenda’s actions when he was substituted, Tewesa said the team will sit down and analyse the situation before taking action.
“We are not happy with what he (referring to George Nyirenda) did. He should live by example as a senior player. I can assure you that very soon we will sit down and analyse it before making a decision,” said Tewesa.
In his remarks, MDF Marine Coach Hazily Ziusa congratulated Bullets for progressing to the round of 16 of the competition.

BB has to go on with the issue as it is the way among others of promoting football.
Yes, this is an encouraging result for Marine MDF because BB is a good team other wise much more goals of about 8 would have been scored. Best wishes to BB and best wishes too MDF Marine for hard work and next time a new result shall be achieved.
BB Technical panel should sit down and educate George Nyirenda on his behavior especially when substituted. You cannot play well all days sometimes a play is down and it is in these cases he can be substituted. We have seen players like Ronaldo or Messi etc being substituted its part of the game. George must be taught this.
