Off the wall of Patseni Mauka: DPP cadets have job at Malawi Revenue Authority

My investigations have revealed that the Democratic Progressive Party DPP) government is forcing Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) to employ DPP cadets (party youth wing). The cadets are the ones who are offloading containers at the Inland Examination Center in Lilongwe. The cadets do not have any skills to offload merchandise which includes fragile items that need careful professional handling. Their only qualification is how good they are at painting themselves blue and white, the colours of the ruling party.

The cadets are very rude towards the MRA officers at the centre as well as Malawians waiting for their goods to be cleared. The officers fear these blue young men who call themselves ‘Boma’ because their party is ruling. Anytime officers try to control these cadets in a way that displeases them, they call their DPP bosses to complain that MRA officers are not respecting them. Typical of the ruling party gurus, the officers are threatened with dismissals or transfers.

The cadets are said to work slowly and demand money from container owners if they want their containers to be offloaded quickly. In some cases, some goods are damaged because of the unprofessional handling by the ‘morale boys’ whose father is President Professor Peter Mutharika (2019 ayimanso).

When container owners complain to MRA officers about the bad handling of their goods by the cadets, the answer they get is “amenewo ndi bomatu sitingawayankhule, atinenera kwa mabwana awo.” Such is the pathetic way things are being run at the institution which is tasked with collecting the much needed revenue for running our country.

I would like to ask the DPP government to find another way of rewarding these blue painted boys. Rewarding them with jobs at at important departments which require professional services is insanity of first grade. You can reward them with jobs as watchmen, garden boys and cooks at your houses!
