Official results to delay in Malawi elections- MEC
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says the final official results in the presidential elections will delay as they want to use fax machines to transmit the results.
MEC Chief Elections Officer Willie Kalonga told a news conference in the evening that the Commission will start announcing result by Thursday morning.
“To speed up the process we’re using fax machines to transmit the results. Our fax machines have started working,” said Kalonga.
“Voter announcement will start as soon as we get results for a ward or constituency we’ll make it available,” he said.
“We’ll not keep the nation waiting as soon as we get the results we’ll announce.”
Kalonga said the law gives MEC eight days to announce the results.
“We want to announce the results as soon as they come. There is no way we can be playing games, we are serious,” he said.
Kalonga said MEC is delivering a transparent electoral process, dismissing rigging fears.
“If anyone has evidence that Commission is rigging come forward,” he said.
Radio stations such as Zodiak Broadcasting Station and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) were announcing unofficial results.
