Old Mutual donates to Malawi Queens to boost their Fast5 campaign
Old Mutual Malawi has donated K500 thousand to the Malawi National Netball team as they prepare for the fourth coming Fast 5 netball championship in Astralia in the few coming weeks.
Speaking after making the donation, Sales and Marketing Executive for Old Mutual Linda Poya said they felt obliged to support a winning brand.
“We felt the need to support the Queens as they prepare for the Fast 5 tournament because we want to be part of the successful story. We were approached by NAM (Netball Association of Malawi) and we did not hesitate to do this noble cause because Queens are a winning brand and we would like to be part of such success,” said Poya.
In her remarks, NAM General Secretary Carol Bapu commended Old mutual for what she called a timely donation.
“We are thankful to Old mutual for this timely donation. The team needs a lot of financial support as they prepare for the Fast 5. Despite enjoying sponsorship from Airtel, other companies can still assist the team just like what Old Mutual has done,” said Bapu.
For her part, new Queens Captain Grace Mwafulirwa said the donation is a great motivation as they aim to reclaim their position on the World netball rankings .
“We have a big challenge to reclaim our position having lost it to South Africa. We hope this donation is a motivating factor as we prepare to achieve that,” said Mwafulirwa who is standing in for Carol Ntukule Ngwira who is on maternity leave.
Meanwhile, Malawi ‘s only netball export Mwai Kumwenda is yet to join camp following an extended holiday. It is reported that Kumwenda was expected to join the rest of the squad on Tuesday this week.

Publicity and the amount being donated do not much. Old Mutual just wants to market itself here. MK500,000 is nothing.
