Old Mutual Malawi partners Sanwecka in training 108 youths in various skills
Old Mutual Malawi has partnered with Sanwecka Tech Companions to train a group of 108 youths in various vocational skills to enable them be self-reliance.
From the group, 73 were trained in Blantyre and Mzuzu while 35 have been trained in Lilongwe.
Speaking during the graduation of 35 young people in Lilongwe on Thursday, Old Mutual Marketing and Corporate Affairs Executive Patience Chatsika expressed gratitude to see young people empowered with various skills.
“We are highly concerned with the problem of unemployment and we believe that equipping young people with skills will go a long way in changing the status quo,” she said.
Adding that the Malawi 2063 emphasizes on human Capital Development as one of the pillars and enablers of economic development therefore investing in young people is critical to transforming Malawi.
Chatsika stressed that it is their desire to ensure that they are achieving mutually positive futures. “We believe that having skills is key for socio-economic development and industrial growth.”
Sanwecka Chief Executive Officer, Rashid Kasito hailed Old Mutual Malawi for the sponsorship through Sanwecka to empower young people with skills.
“These young people will now be self-reliant since they have acquired skills to go and start their own businesses instead of waiting for employment,” he said.
Some of the skills gained include cell phone repairing, home gadgets repair and dish installation.
One of the beneficiaries from the training, Slaaj Omar Rajabu from Mtsiliza, in Lilongwe said the knowledge and skills acquired from the training will benefit his area as they will be approaching him for the services needed.
