Overspeeding minibus kills four including two months baby

Four people are reported to have been killed in a road accident when a minibus they were travelling in overturned on its own near Lengwe Junction in Chikwawa.

According to Chikwawa Police Station, Traffic Officer Sergeant Stefano Muthama, nine other passengers have sustained serious injuries including a two months old baby.

“Four passengers have died while nine are critical and currently receiving treatment at Chikwawa District Hospital,” he said.

Sergeant Muthama attributed the accident to overspeeding which caused the minibus registration number CK 5553 to overturn after its back tyre burst.

Currently, police in the district are keeping in custody driver of the minibus, Friend Komani who will answer to a charge of causing accident by reckless driving when taken to court soon.

The 28 year old driver hails from Ngulube Village under Chief Mbenje in Nsanje District.

No no no!! This is beyond recklessness. I would rather have him charged with manslaughter. Minibus drivers as well as other drivers ought to learn a stiffer lesson when they cause deaths like this
