Parents, education analyst ask Maneb to extend registration of candidates period

Education commentators have joined parents who have asked the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) to extend the registration of candidates for 2021 PSLCE, JCE and MSCE examinations.

Kondowe: Parents request is valid

According to a communication from MANEB, it states that registration starts on 22nd February and ends on 8th March 2021.

“This is to inform all that registration of candidates for 2021  PSLCE, JCE and MSCE examinations in all MANEB registered examination centres  starts on 22nd February and ends on 8th March 2021,” reads the communication from MANEB.

However, this has not gone well with most of the parents as they said the time allocated is not enough for them to search for registration money considering the fact that schools have just been re-opened.

Joseph Banda said parents are already struggling fetching for school fees after the reopening of schools and that they need more time as well for registration period of candidates.

“The time is just too short for us to pay registration fees for our children. For God sake schools have just been re-opened and we need money for school fees at the same time money for registration fees. Let MANEB reconsider us by extending the period,” he said.

Executive director of the Civil Society Coalition on Quality Basic Education (CSCQBE), Benedicto Kondowe, concurred with the parents by describing their plea as valid.

“That’s a valid request. The period is short considering that MSCE results are not yet out. The failures have to be given time to register for examinations  too,” said Kondowe.

Independent Schools Association of Malawi (ISAMA) president, Joseph Patel also asked MANEB to re-think their decesion.

” They really need extension and we would support that call, “he said.
