Parliamentary committee begins investigations into Chilima plane crash
A special parliamentary committee established to investigate the plane crash that killed former Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others on June 10, 2024, has today officially started its investigations into the tragedy.

As part of the inquiry, the committee is this afternoon expected to visit Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe to gather information and assess issues surrounding the ill-fated flight.
The investigations are being led by committee chairperson Walter Nyamilandu Manda, who is currently meeting with other members of the committee to discuss how the entire inquiry process will be conducted.
The meeting has drawn various stakeholders and officials connected to the investigation process, including Lieutenant Colonel Amin Kalinga from the Malawi Defence Force, who is part of the parliamentary secretariat supporting the committee’s work.
The committee is expected to conduct detailed investigations into the circumstances surrounding the military aircraft crash, which shocked the nation and claimed the lives of nine people, including Dr. Chilima. The tragedy triggered widespread public grief and raised questions about aviation safety, aircraft maintenance and the handling of the flight before the crash occurred.
