Piksy, Mlaka to headline Miss Malawi UK Sept 13

Organisers of Miss Malawi UK beauty pageant have announced date and venue of this year’s contest with an extensive makeover for the beauty title including a music concert by two top Malawian based artists.

Directors of H&K Events, Kondwani Bowoyeke Munthali and Henry Dokowe Ngwira, who are organisers of the beauty contest, said they have set September 13, 2014 as the day they will crown the new Malawian beauty queen in UK. The pageant will be held at Birmingham Royal Suite.

To spice up the event, the organisers have lined up artists from Malawi,MlakaMaliro and singer of the moment,Piksy to headline the event with live performances.

“Our aim is to take the Miss Malawi UK pageant to new heights and we believe that we are well on our way to achieving this,” Munthali told Nyasa Times.

Piksy of Unamatamata fame and Mlaka confimed that they signed a contract with H&K Events to perform in England.

Munthali said so far a dozen on girls have registered to contest and are being screened by Miss Diaspora and other beauty queens based in UK.

“We have engaged beauty pageant experts to train the contestants and prepare a good show this year. We want it to be done with high standards and professionalism,” Munthali explained.

He also said the event will be red-carpet and will have  star-studded panel of judges who will be judging contestants on intelligence, talent, cultural dressing, beauty and a dedication to charity.

Meanwhile, to launch the event, there will be a social football bonanza for Malawians to be held in Birmingham on August 2.

One of the organisers of the football bonanza, Ed Chikumbanje said the reigning Miss Malawi UK Alexina Phiri will be available with other beauty queens.

Last years,  up-and-coming fashion designer Felicia Ngoma dressed the top three contestants with her  Nyasa Brand designs.
