Piksy titles solo album ‘Maso’, to be released mid August

Probably one of the hottest artists on the local scene at the moment, Piksy, whose hit single ‘Unamata’ has taken Malawian airwaves by storm, has finally confirmed that his long-awaited album will be titled ‘Maso’.

In an interview with Nyasa Times, the musician (real name Evans Zangazanga), formerly of Atumwi, disclosed that recording of the solo debut album is “nearly complete”.

“The studio work is almost finished, currently am finalising the recordings and mixing,” said Piksy as he revealed, “I have named the album ‘Maso [Eyes]’ because to me this is a dream come true.”

“The title-track is about my career experiences, all the things I bumped into that could’ve stopped me from realising this dream. Talk of love and my life in general. My dream was to have successful life, in everything,” he said.

Piksy, who is growing into one of the most cherished young musicians on the local scene, on the other hand added: “I’m not only focusing on myself, I’m also talking to people, who look down on themselves.”

The lyricist, an Afro-singer/rapper and producer, who is signed to Nde’feyo Entertainment, said self-belief had taken him to where he is now as he pointed, “If I didn’t believe in myself I wouldn’t have made it this far.”

The Release

Meanwhile, according to his label, the album, which also includes his recent released song ‘Appetiser’, will be released mid August and it will be unveiled to the public first in the commercial city Blantyre then the capital Lilongwe.

“It will first be launched in Blantyre and soon we will be announcing the date and venue,” said Nde’feyo Entertainment’s managing director Ken Limwame, adding: “The CD will go on the market the same date.”

Full of confidence, with the singles ‘Unamata’ and ‘Appetiser’, which, without doubt have left Malawians’ expectations on a high, the singer said the album, which will probably have 12 tracks, will live to people’s expectations.

“No doubt about that. There are great songs in the album, I took my time and people won’t be disappointed,” he promised.

And looking at the catalogue of producers that Piksy has worked with in the making of the album, ‘Maso’ should be one of the best recordings to be released this summer.

The beat-makers include Percy Manyozo (Pro Pee), Taps Bandawe, Low Budget Records, Manje, Ralph Ching’amba, Uncle Lai, William Khwiliro, Uzy and God’s Favourite, besides the singer himself.

Other songs to be on the lookout are ‘Nyimbo Yako’, ‘Abambo Nyimbo’, ‘Ndikhonza’, ‘Ndikakwiya’, ‘Kuzizira’, ‘Ponya Mwendo’ ‘Uncle Short-one’ and ‘Moyo’, among others, which he features George Mkandawire, Maskal, Armstrong, Biriwiri, Lulu and Young Kay.
