Point of order sustained: President Mutharika ‘always serious’

Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya on Thursday sustained a point of order by MP Mwanza central Davis Chester Katsonga challenging Kasungu West MP Nkhata on President Peter Mutharika’s appointments.

Katsonga rose on a point of order to challenge Nkhata who in supporting the appointment of Lexten Kachama as new Inspector General of Police, commended the President cynically , saying “this time he has shown some elements of seriousness” to hire on merit.

But Katsonga rose on a point of order: “ Mr Speaker Sir, I think the honourable member holding the floor is out of order by reflecting on the State President that, this time only, he, the State President has shown some seriousness. The President is always serious in making his appointments.”

The Speaker ruled that the point of order be sustained.

“The President of the country is always a serious man and is always serious in his appointment,” said the Speaker.
