Malawi Police in Blantyre have arrested lawyer Ambokire Salim on allegations that he swindled a client millions of money.

Lawyer Salimu: Faces allegations of swindling client

Blantyre police spokesperson said Salim is expected to be taken to Lilongwe for the case.

However,  the police remain muted on the details of the case.

He was arrested on Wednesday.

Malawi Law Society secretary Martha Kaukonde said the society is probing the matter.

“If we confirm that he indeed swindled a client, then we will refer him to our disciplinary committee,” said Kaukonde.

She however said issues of lawyers swindling money their clients has drastically reduced in the past years.

  6. Malawi Law Society (MLS) is there to brash people at this point in time. My case against some lawyers is rotting at their office to-date. They are all lawyers and they shield one another and we know it well. MLS is so toothless and the lawyers are so powerful and they dont even fear it. With their president mmmmmh nanji?

  9. to get a title deed, this man charged me k200.000 in the year 2004. is that the right fee please you lawyers???????

  10. I have no kind words of lawyers. my encounter with them has been so bad. some of them are just having papers but they are rubbish in there heads.

  11. This is a typical example of legal practitioners a renowned lawyer referred to at the recent Lawyers conference in Mangochi as putting the legal fraternity to shame. Other examples are midnight magistrates we have heard about.

    However, as the saying goes, Innocent until proven guilty. Let’s wait and see.

  14. The legal fraternity in Malawi should be covered in shame because they persistently cover each other up instead of covering their profession with integrity. Many of these lawyers have made law unto themselves and in other countries they could have properly been investigated and no doubt end up in jail. In my home country–Malawi a lawyer that is a crook is celebrated. What for? Lawyers that are not toeing the line should have their membership to legal bodies revoked and ultimately be shamed in newspapers or radios
    Its a shame that we have lawyers that do not qualify to seat on benches due to their disgraceful conduct and those shielding them should think of leaving the profession. It’s a total Dolus Malus.

    1. They are all criminals anyway. When they are not shooting fellow cash gate bandits they are either swindling clients or driving around in stolen cars

  18. I’m sure there is a good explanation . He is a man of good stature and a great gentleman. Let’s not jump to any conclusions. Let us also comply with reporting when matters when facts , names and figures are laid out. Then only does reporting become of substance.
