Police car smoked over ‘black market diesel’

A Malawi Police Service car on Saturday smoked and nearly burnt to ashes in Lilongwe after what a mechanic said was due to diesel the cops snatched from the black market trader.

The Isuzu cabin which was being driven by a female cop from Lilongwe Hotel started smoking at a fuel pump station.

A policeman tried to put off the engine but could not switch off and many people were scared the car could burst.

A Malawian of Asian origin braved the smoke and put it off.

“This was caused by bad diesel which might have been from black market,” a mechanic who had checked on the engine told a citizen journalist on the scene who took the pictures and filed to Nyasa Times.
