Police Chief confirmation hearing today Wednesday

Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament meets Wednesday to decide the fate of Police Inspector General Merlyn Nachulu Yolamu following her appointment as Inspector General of Police.
PAC chairperson Joyce Chitsulo said her Committee will be meeting Wednesday this week to discuss her confirmation.

Yolamu: faces the grill
Parliament’s Public Appointments Committee was expected to meet on the subject on Tuesday, but shifted to Wednesday due to technical hitches, according to Chitsulo.
President Lazarus Chakwera named Yolamu to replace fired George Kainja but her appointment late last month is subject to Parliament’s approval.
If approved, she will become the country’s first official female police chief after former President Bingu wa Mutharika’s appointee Mary Nangwale was rejected in 2005.
But Chitsulo said her Committee’s mandate is to recommend to the whole House whose decision it is to confirm or disprove the appointment.
