Police increase security for veep Chilima to avoid contempt
Malawi Police have Monday deployed two more security officers for the State vice president Saulos Chilima just days after his lawyers filed for police acting Inspector General Duncan Mwapasa contempt of court for failure to restore the veep’s security detail following a February 3, 2019 court order.
Chilima’s lawyers are also dragging Chief Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet Lloyd Muhara and Atyorney General Kalekeni Kaphale for the same contempt of court charges for not adhering to the Constitution Court judgement that he remains in his position, hence deserving some protocols to Chilima which include the vice presidency convoy, state residence and the vice presidency office.
In a message seen by Nyasa Times, the police director of Human Resource Management and Development S. Kaliza has announced the deployment of the two police officers to the office of the vice president with immediate effect.
The police officers are Gloria Mtukula from Lumbadzi police and Harriet Mvula from Lingadzi police both from Lilongwe.
It was not immediately known whether this deployment would force lawyers for Chilima to withdraw the contempt of court proceeds in the court.
Chilima’s demand follows the February 3 judgement if the High Court of Malawi sitting as Constitutional Court that nullified the presidential election results in the ay 21 2019 Tripartite Elections and declared that the ruling effectively meant that he presidency – comprising the President and the Vice-President – reverted to the pre-elections status of President Peter Mutharik and vice-president Chilima.

A whole government led by a so called Law Professor failing to adhere to simple court orders from the High court? This is a typical example of why we are the poorest of the poor in the world. We cant even follow our own rules, everything goes. The fish is rotten from the head and it has now tainted the whole country, nobody follows the law. Just take a look at our roads, everybody including motorists, pedestrians and even domestic animals are disregarding the law. The result is CHAOS! People accusing and killing each other over witchcraft, looting of a peoples properties, defiling of babies, corruption by all and sundry!
This President has been a curse for this country, a total failure of leadership.
