Police launch manhunt tor murder suspect in Mulanje

Malawi Police in Mulanje are hunting for 30 year-old Lucius Saini, from Samson village in Traditional Authority Mabuka in the district, for allegedly murdering his brother-in law.

The incident happened on Wednesday at Bwanali village where the suspect had gone to discuss some family issues with her.

While discussing, according to Mulanje Police Publicist Gresham Ngwira, the suspect started assaulting his sister violently, a development that angered her husband, McDonald Makoka.

“As the husband was trying to rescue his wife, the suspect assualted him with an axe leading to a deep cut on his left femeral area.

“The deceased was then rushed to Mulanje District hospital where he was pronounnced dead upon arrival. Postmorten examinations revealed that death is due to severe bleeding,” said Ngwira.

Late Makoka, 26, hailed from Bwanali village in the area of Traditional Authority Mabuka in the district.

Ngwira urged members of the community to provide the police with information about the suspect’s whereabouts.

“We wishe to advise people to seek guidance from relevant authorities in their communities whenever disagreements arise among them instead of acting aggressively out of anger or emotions,” said Mulanje Police Publicist.
In another development, the Midima First Grade Magistrate Court in Limbe, Blantyre has slapped 20 year-old man with 16 years jail term for raping his sister-in-law.

The convcit, according to Spokesperosn for Limbe Police Station, Widson Mshane, committed the offence after a Mozambican witchdoctor advised him to sleep with his sister in-law to prevent death of their sick grandmother.
