Silver add more woes for Chitipa Utd: Malawi TNM SuperLeague

It is now seven games and no win for TNM Super League debutants Chitipa United. They still have a single point as they again, got walloped by the Airtel Top 8 Champions, Silver Strikers 0-2 on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium.

Chitipa United coach Kondwani Mwalweni: Blames referee

In a cool and cloudy afternoon, before a sizeable crowd, the central bankers were quick to stamp their authority on the field of play from the towering referee Alfred Aziz Nyirenda’s first whistle.

Just four minutes into the game, Silver Strikers’ slippery left winger Thuso Paipi received a beautiful pass from enterprising Levison Maganizo on the left, and his sharp cross found Matthews Sibale who nodded the ball into United’s net giving goalkeeper Lloyd Munthali no chance. 0-1.

The bankers continued to dominate play as Young Chimodzi Junior enjoyed monopoly in the middle of the park, with Captain Blessings Tembo, Hygiene Mwandepeka, Yunusa Sheriff and Herbert Wayekha jealously guarding their goalkeeper Blessings Kameza at the back.

In the 34th minute, Chitipa United went forward with a fierce wave of attack but Captain Irvin Mwakapenda’s powerful header from close range, was tipped out by Silver Strikers goalie for a corner.

It never rains but pours! In the 45th minute, Mark Fodya’s free kick, 30 metres from the goal line, hit the left upright and Matthews Sibale was in the right position at the right time to tap the rebound into the net to complete his brace. 0-2 to the bankers!

Five minutes from recess, Sibale would have been a hat trick hero following Levison Maganizo’s clever footwork past United defenders before chipping in the ball, but Sibales’s diving header that kissed the net was ruled out as assistant referee Haward Chifunda’s flag was up for off side.

After 90 minutes of play, it was Chitipa United 0 and Silver Strikers 2.

Speaking after the match, Head Coach for Chitipa United Kondwani Mwalweni was so bitter with referee Aziz Nyirenda’s officiation.

“It is now clear that referees are taking part in almost all our losses. Both goals that Silver scored were from off side positions. Frustrations will not cease for Chitipa United fans if this will be the way referees will be handling our games everywhere we go,” lamented Mwalweni.

Silver Strikers technical panel were not available   for interviews after the game.

With this humiliating result, Chitipa United continue to anchor the log table with just a point from seven games.
