Driver, Sergeant Kayake Kamkuwe, 36, died at the spot when a police vehicle he was driving made a fatal accident near Kalenge Brige, a long the sharp bends in Misuku Hills.

Police publicist, Sergeant Gradwell Simwaka said Kamkuwe, who was driving a police car, Toyota Land Cruiser, Registration N0: 2121, failed to negotiate a sharp corner, forcing the car to overturn before hitting a tree, few meters away from the road.

“The deceased failed to negotiate a corner soon after crossing Kalenge River. The car overturned and plunged into the bush where it hit a tree which blocked it,” said Simwaka.

Kamkuwe, who had 13 people on board, including magistrates, police prosecutors, court support staff , a prison warder and four convicts, was coming from a court sitting at Wilindi Magistrate Court in the area of Chief Mwenemisuku.

First Grade Magistrate, Billy Ngosi, who is also the victim, blamed the accident on over-speeding.

Ngosi said he did not know what went wrong with the driver(deceased) who could not heed to advices to reduce speed, especially being the odd hour.

“I argued with the driver, almost twice, right from the time we started off from Misuku Magistrate Court, to minimize the speed since we were going home but to no avail,” said Ngosi, who was complaining of severe pain in the chest.

Sub Inspector, Prosecutor, Fancy Sichali, who led a rescue team to the scene of the accident said Kamkuwe’s body was hauled from the bottom of the rear side of the car.

Except Sergeant Prosecutor, Hastings Mwanza, who sustained serious injuries in the head and is in great pain, most of those admitted at Chitipa District Hospital are being treated for minor injuries, with Prosecutor Sergeant Leonard Chabwela and Prison Warder, Nelson Kamela already discharged this morning.

Kamkuwe hails from Kalolo Village, in T/A Kalolo

wednesday is a market day at misuku. mwina anamwako masese ndi zina zotero, hence the stubornness of the cop driver when his worship tried to reason with him on overspeeding. anyway, may his soul rest in eternal peace and a quick recovery to the those who sustained injuries.

It is very ironic when law enforcers do not abide by the laws. A police vehicle is just like any other vehicle mechanically, if not well operated it can be involved in an accident. I have seen on numerous occasions that Police vehicles are not well operated under the pretext of over-speeding to carry out a security operation. The department will do better to train its officers driving vehicles on road safety rules. After all, officers are primarily human beings. If you check most of police vehicles have dents, others badly damaged due to reckless driving. It requires a lot… Read more »

My fellow drivers please lets not over speed and lets try to listen to advice from our passengers on board being a driver does not mean that you know it all when it comes to driving. Get well soon to those injured and for Mr. Kamkuwe, May Your Soul Rest In Peace may be you could have been with your family by now if you listened to what the Magistrate was advising you.

Phepani Your Worship Mr. Billy Ngosi. We pray for you and the rest that you were injured in that accident. For everything that happens to us, God has a say. Look -un-to Him. He is the provider of life and everything. We pray that The Almighty removes your pain and heal you all in Jesus’ name. As for the deceased, may his Soul rest in peace and may the good Lord be with the family members during this trying time of the loss of their dear one. Andrew Phiri, Judiciary, Ntcheu

Not long time ago we
heard of a police officer
who was arrested at muluzis residence after
stealing car parts

These police officers steal
car parts from these cars
which they use on duties
creating / making those cars death traps for themselves

I dont blame them but the
one who dwells inside them.

Those driving do so with
caution

A Machine is not human being whom you can say
STOP will stop one time
NO !!
