Political analyst says Chimulirenji lacks clear agenda over DPP presidency

A renowned political analyst has observed vice president Everton Chimulirenji lacks clear agenda on his wish to take over the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidency from President Peter Mutharika, saying he looks pushed for the job.

The observation tallies well with some concerns from some quarters of the society that the DPP campaign director is pushed by some ‘dark forces’ at Kamuzu Palace to take over power from Mutharika so that he protects them from prosecution once he becomes Head of State.
Politician-cum-social commentator Humphrey Mvula said Chimulirenji looks not ready for the top most job of the Republic.
“He has no clear strategy, he has no clear agenda. He does not even understand his job description as the vice president. This is why he is performing the duties of ward councillors, he is always up and down,” said Mvula.
Chimulirenji faces stiff competition for the DPP top most job from other people in the party including Ben Phiri, Bright Msaka, Kondwani Nankhumwa and Joseph Mwanamvekha.
Mvula said Chimulirenji faces resistance from the DPP stronghold of the Lhomwe belt as the party was formed by president Bingu wa Mutharika on tribal lhomwe pivotal.
Chimulirenji on Saturday met DPP governors from the eastern region where its vice president Bright Msaka is regarded by party supporters and analyst as a suitable successor for DPP presidency.

Can Mr H Mvula tell the nation what are the job description of the Vice President of Malawi? Nothing, the vice president has nothing to do except when the president has delegated him/her. So to say the current veep is doing what councilors could do is not a fair analysis. Ministers in Malawi are more powerful than vice president because ministers have clear job description and mandate not the veep. Tell the nation which vice president ever did great things without being seen as usurping power from the president. May be Mr Mvula is campaigning for someone of course he has the right, but do it without twisting facts
Yes you are right. Any vice or even deputy anywhere in the world has limits in his/her job except delegated. Vice or deputy means assistant and in the event the owner is away then the vice/deputy will be assigned a,b,c thats all.

Unfortunately vice president chimulirenji has not expressed his interest to be next DPP president so he cannot act according to mvulas wishes. Let me remind mr mvula that DPP party has a Constitution where they are guidelines on how to select party leaders. So relax , you will be informed accordingly when the time comes. Discrediting someone now will not help matters as that will mean victimising innocent individuals. Mr mvula relax , you will have enough time to analyse when the time comes but at the moment I think they are burning issues that need to be discussed.

He is not a presidential material so we should actually discourage him to take over the presidency. Let him be content with the VP position and it ends there. Malawi being at the bottom of poorest countries we can’t afford to waste our future with chimulirenji. We need to be serious as a nation.
