Though PP’s Ajilu Kalitendere maintained that he was the rightful candidate for the party in Machinga North East Constituency, PP officially announced that Sharrif Mapasa will represent the party in the area.

UDF, the expected PP challenger in the region, has not yet held its primaries in the district.

All seven constituencies in Machinga are represented in Parliament by UDF, including Machinga North East which is currently represented by UDF presidential candidate, Atupele Muluzi.

Banda called on the people in Machinga to support the party by voting for the PP candidate in May to ensure continued development.
