PP fires Mzomera and Kondowe over misconduct
The opposition Peoples Party (PP) has fired its provincial chairpersons for the northern region, Cliffer Kondowe and Reverend Christopher Mzomera for alleged misconduct.
The party has since given the two seven days to hand over all party materials in their possession including vehicles.
Mzomera, until his expulsion, was the party’s northern province Chairperson while Kondwe was Provincial Chairlady.
According to expulsion letters signed by PP’s Secretary General, Ibrahim Matola which Nyasa Times has sourced, Mzomera and Kondowe have beed fired following their behaviour during the party’s meeting in the northern region on Friday.
Mzomera and Kondowe are said to have hired thugs to disrupt the meeting Matola had organized in preparation for the return of party founder, Joyce Banda.
Thugs disrupted the meeting and “detained” the party’s spokesman, Ken Msonda to give them “allowances” and transport reimbursements.
”I regret to inform you that you have been expelled as a Provincial Chairman and party member with immediate effect,” the letter to Mzomera reads in part.
Matola in the letters accused the two of creating “confusion” in the party.
Matola wrote: ”Your behaviour when senior party members came to address a meeting in the north on preparations for our party founder and President HE Dr. Joyce Banda’s home coming is a serious misconduct to bring confusion in the party”.
”Please hand over party materials, vehicles and any other property in your possession to the Provincial Secretary within seven (7) days from date of this letter”.
Mzomera confirmed to Nyasa Times that they indeed disrupted the meeting, saying he is in charge of the party in the north and maintained that Khumbo Kachali is acting leader.
“I am taking orders from Khumbo Kachali, he is the acting leader of PP,” said Mzomera.
Kachali is said to have bankrolled controversial Mzomera to pay thugs to disrupt the meeting. He dismissed the allegations.
The expulsion of Mzomera and Kondowe comes three days after the party suspended its Director of Administration, Reverend Peter Kaleso for indiscipline.
Kaleso has been replaced by Ken Msonda on acting capacity while waiting to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee.
