Chapola said Nyirongo 42, and hails from Songo village T/A Thindi in Mzimba was allegedly dating Chirambo’s wife, Erita  Mbewe 32 years old of Lundu in Blantyre.

“The victim was dating Erita Mbewe who has been on separation from her husband Chirambo.  And on Wednesday, Nyirongo went to her house and some people informed Chirambo about it,” said Chipala.

Chapola added: “It is reported that a fierce fight ensued between the two (Chirambo and Nyirongo) and the victim was severely injured and was rushed to Mzuzu Central Hospital where he died this morning (Thursday).”

Chirambo 48 years-old works for Central Medical Stores in Mzuzu and has been arrested and charged of murder.

“We arrested him today and he is in custody. He has been charged of murder, contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code, which attracts capital punishment of death. He will be taken to court soon,” Chapola added.

PP Publicity Secretary, Ken Msonda said they have received the news of the passing on of Nyirongo.

“Yes it is true, we have just heard the passing on of our Counsellor in Mzuzu Mr. Nyirongo that he has been murdered. We have no details on circumstances leading to his death. It is a murder case under Police investigation; let the law enforcers do their job, once investigations are through we shall know. We send our deep heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May God give them strength as they pass through this very difficult and traumatising moment,” said Msonda.
