PP to ensure essential commodities are available Kachali
Malawi’s Vice President, Khumbo Kachali, on Saturday told Malawians in Chitipa District that the aim of the People’s Party (PP) led government is to ensure important social amenities and commodities are available in the country
He said for this to be possible, every Malawian needs to work hard with the government to achieve this goal.
Speaking at a rally at Chitipa Airfield, Kachali said the current administration is working hard to put the country back on the right track by ensuring that fuel, food, foreign currency and other essential commodities are available.
“When this country was in crisis of scarcity of fuel, foreign currency and other essential commodities, every Malawian felt the impact because prices of basic commodities went up beyond the economic ability of the average Malawian,” Kachali recalled.
He also reminded Malawians that when fuel became scarce in the country during the final days of Democratic Progressive Party, construction of Karonga-Chitipa Road stalled which worried citizens. But with the availability of fuel now, he hoped the road would be quickly completed.
The Vice President, therefore, urged all Malawians for hard work and unity in support of the current government’s efforts to recover from economic difficulties the country is going through about four months ago.
Responding to an earlier complaint by Senior Chief Mwaulambia about people from Tanzania buying maize from the district (Chitipa) at very cheap price, Kachali said government’s desire is that once the Karonga-Chitipa Road is completed, farmers in the district would be able to sell their crops at fair prices just like other districts in the country.
Good policies
Earlier Senior Chief Mwaulambia hailed government for ensuring that fuel was available in the country which has seen continuation of the construction of the Karonga-Chitipa Road.
“Good policies of the PP Government have ensured constant fuel supply in the country which was a nightmare in the past regime,” Mwaulambia said.
While commending President Joyce Banda’s administration for starting at a good note, the chief warned, without elaboration, against elements from some individuals who surround the President who he felt may mislead the leadership i.
Some of the PP party officials who accompanied the Vice President at the rally included Harry Mkandawire, the party’s Provincial Chairperson (North) Reverend Brown Soko, PP Party Secretary General Henry Chibwana, Members of Parliament and PP district officials.
Speaking before Kachali, Reverend Brown Soko and Chitipa East Parliamentarian Kezi Msukwa who spoke on behalf of Chitipa Central MP Alinuwila Musongole who was away on government duty, said good governance and respect for donors are some of the attributes that has won peoples Party overwhelming support from a majority of Malawians
