Preaching regionalism? Freedom Party asks northerners to vote for a northern region president

Freedom Party National Deputy Secretary General Frazer Chunga is calling on people in the north to rally behind a presidential hopeful from the region, saying that is the only hope for meaningful development on the region.

He did not say which presidential candidate from the north the northerners should vote for but the leader of Freedom party is Khumbo Kachali, the former state vice president in the Joyce Banda administration.

Kachali has not so far announced that he would vie for the presidency during the 2025 polls.

Speaking on Saturday during a rally at Jenda, Chunga claimed the north is being sidelined in the distribution of maize and that many AIP beneficiaries are yet to purchase fertilizer under the program and has very few development activities.

Chunga  called on the people in the country to consider giving Khumbo Kachali their presidential vote in next year’s elections as he is the only capable leader not dented by corruption traces.

GVH Jenda Theu said communities around the area are in dire need of food assistance owing to escalating prices of maize where the grain in a 20 litre pail is being sold at K23000.

Freedom Party is part of the nine member strong ruling Tonse Alliance.
