President Chakwera appoints new chief of staff Kapondamgaga
President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Prince Kapondamgaga as his new chief of staff at State House, replacing Peter Mukhito who was serving former president Peter Mutharika.
Kapondamgaga, a close ally to President Chakwera, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Farmers Union of Malawi (FUM), an umbrella body for farmers in Malawi. As CEO, Prince heads the senior management team which is responsible for strategic management of FUM. .
His appointment was announced by government on Monday.
He is also in the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 where he was appointed by the previous regime.
Kapondamgaga is a holder of a BSc in Agriculture and an MSc in Crop Science obtained at the University of Malawi.
President Chakwera also made the following appointments:
Minister of Economic Planning and Development and Public Sector Reforms – Dr Saulos Chilima
Minister of Finance -Felix Mlusu
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs – Modecai Msisha
Attorney General – Chikosa Silungwe
Minister of Homeland Security – Richard Chimwendo Banda
Chief Secretary to Government – Zangazanga Chikhosi
Deputy Chief Secretary to Government – Janet Banda.

The new Secretary should bring sanity to the government and empower controlling officers more. There is a tendency in government of giving people positions from outside the civil service leaving out people who have worked for many years and have been patriotic. Civil servants should compete for such positions.

All political appointments end up like this therefore there is no need to say he is fired. Even if Chilima becomes Head of state, he will appoint his own new people.
It was inevitable for the likes of Mukhito to face the boot. May its time to make use of the MBA that was done by someone else and him going to graduate for it.
Just like Mgeme and all staff of Mutharika their tenure is tied to that of the president..nobody fired

The Heading is misleading ‘Mukhito fired at State House’ instead it would have better to write ‘Chakwera hires Kapondamgaga as State House Chief of Staff’
We need competent people to help Chakwera to develop the country.
Dont just fire him, get him arrested too. Hes one of the biggest mbavaas. ARREST HIM. DONT SPARE HIM.

What is the job description of Chief of staff? am asking coz I want to assess whether this guy is not misplaced. looking at his qualifications, he would suit as minister of agriculture or indeed secretary for agriculture! Just thinking aloud, paja tiri mmasiku a ‘merit’
