President Mutharika to launch flagship Lilongwe- Kasiya-Santhe road

President Peter Mutharika is scheduled to launch 95 km long Lilongwe Old Airport-Kwanyanda-Santhe road on Wednesday April 3  2019 according to Chief Secretary to Government Lloyd Muhara.

Quick access to the northern and Southern regions. The road already in use

The project also includes the Kasiya spur which has been constructed by Portuguese conglomerate Mota-Engil.

Multinational engineering firm Mota Engil has demonstrated another top drawer delivery of a quality finish going by the specifications of the road.

The road project starts from the M12 ( the Lilongwe to Mchinji road). It extends westwards passing through Nsaru-Kabudula and Kwanyanda Trading Centres.

It joins the M18 at Santhe Trading Centre in Kasungu District.

The project involved upgrading of the existing earth road to class 1 bitumen standard.

“The works will involve widening of the road to 6.8m carriageway with 1.5m single sealed shoulders on either side of the road. The works will also involve construction of a four span bridge across the Bua river and five box culverts on other river crossings,” that’s according to official information from the Roads Authority website.

The road connects areas of high agricultural activities in the country and provides easy mobility for people and goods.

“The road gives easy access to markets for agricultural produce especially tobacco and other produce. The road will provide alternative access route to Kasungu District and beyond to those from Central and Southern part of Malawi by connecting with the M18,” Roads Authority says.

The road will further provide an alternative route into the Northern corridor via the Lilongwe West Bypass thereby decongesting the M1 road that runs from Lilongwe to Kasungu.

By providing easy mobility and accessibility, the road will greatly enhance economic activities to those areas around and beyond.

Meanwhile, along the road, an overpass is taking shape as part of the ongoing $1 billion railway rehabilitation by investor Vale Logistics.

The railway rehabilitation project runs from Nkaya, Balaka, Salima, Lilongwe and Mchinji to Chipata in Zambia facilitate that country’s import and export traffic to access the Indian ocean port of Nacala.

The contractor Mota Engil deliberately left out a 100metre stretch to work on the overpass where trains will pass underneath and vehicle will pass on top of the bridge.

The Lilongwe-Kasiya -Santhe road project has taken four years which is within it’s delivery window.

It was launched by President Mutharika in January 2015 and is financed by the Malawi Government.

  1. Thank you so much to some comrades from other opposition parties for giving credits where it should be given to. Yes i do respect you for admitting that really this government is pushing forward when it comes to roads developments. it’s about time, i’m sure mukatsegulanso maso anuwo kwambiri mosamvela zomwe adzisogoleri anu akukunamizani, muonansa kuti mbali zinazinso boma likuchitapo kanthu. Yes kavotelenibe zipani zanu ndiye mpohamvu ya democracy imeneyo, ngakhale mutasintha maganizpo on last minute kudzavotera DPP ndimhpamvunso chifukwa ndi ufulu wanu.

  2. This is good development for sure. It’s progressive. You build on what others have done. Come May 21 another government ushered power to continue from where the DPP government has stopped! Simple.

  3. That is what we call development. DPP government doing a commendable job. Well done our government. The problem with the people is that they think another government can sponsor something without a proved government. Even what we say MCP did not built with there own money. The true is if indeed we were better off, the country would have completely changed in 31 years but look the worst years are not remembered. Better houses were only built by MHC., but now people are building mansions, where do you get the money from? Even if you get a loan , how much are you getting to repay the loan, and you still manage to drive posh cars which in the past 31years of MCP were only presidential convoy. All were were told is to sleep in houses that does not leak, yet we had houses leaking, the vegetation was destroyed, few houses had iron sheets, nsabwe zinali ngati ngo’ombe, or ziweto, pheromones zosatha, yet we could not say it . People eat gaga , yet we said there was no hunger. Crop inspection were done only for a few fields of those who could afford fertiliser. I remember people who killed themselves because of farmers club because they could not managed to pay back due to poor harvest. The crops were yellow due to luck of fertiliser. Poor transport, buses had set time, if you miss in the morning, then you have to come back the following day. I know that those of you making noise knows nothing about Malawi history. Those who witnessed , they know the truth. DPP please continue we need to change the face of Malawi, which was wasted in 31 years of MCP rule.

    1. @Devil Favoured
Ukakwera pansana pa njovu osamati kuja kulibe mame. Find out which people are building mansions. Civil servants NO! small-scale entrepreneurs NO! But DPP thieves themselves or at least their cronies and likely you are one of them.
Ndalama zake mukumanga ma nyumba ndi zomwezi zikuchoka kwa achina Mortal Ingil ndi anzawo.
The question is, what kind of capacity does Mortal Ingil has to be taking almost all government bigger projects in Malawi? Recently it was reported it will start constructing the Likoma Jett, but it is also in all other construction projects such as the City Centre- Stadium road in Lilongwe, Nyakwa- Livingstonia road, etc, etc..

      1. I don’t think you live in the country. Go and find out, stop acting blindly. Which civil servants are you talking about. Check , and check with what you call SME what they are doing. Check Mzuzu city changes, check Lilongwe changed, Blantyre changed, Zomba even in villages people are building nice and beautiful houses, you can say all are DPP . Stop e ignorant, appreciate and then you will move forward. Even in villages, people don’t like houses thatched with grass which We used to have sharing with snakes. The rivers all are dry because all the trees and grasses that made to hold the water were finished because of thatching houses or building houses. Open your eyes and see what is happening. If all houses are built by DPP then it means you can’t defeat them because they are many according to you. Jack up little Johnny, pull up your socks and move.

        1. Thank you Favour, anthu ngati awa olo utawafotokozera motani, mitu yawo inauma, sakwanitsa kuyamika zinthu zabwino. Ada chifukwa cha miseu yabwino ikumangidwa mmalawi, panopa ngakhale business za ma minibus ngati part of transport dzapita patsogolo. Chimenecho ndiye sichitukuko?

  4. Well done. Malawians’ tax money. Ndiye asati mfwimfwi ngati ndalama zachoka mthumba mwake..

  5. Hospitals every 4 km and extension of KCH and Queens Central Hospital to address the current HEALTH sector problems where patients cannot easily access health services or sharing beds under DPP administration will WIN MCP votes not these useless launches.

  6. The road construction started years back and is still under construction, why launch it now?, What is the meaning of launch?old age or what? DPP Campaign must not be financed by state resources? We are watching? These are the very things that people of Kasiya and the rest of Malawians will make sure that the wasteful DPP is voted out of Government on 21st May 2019. If it was Dr Lazarus Chakwera MCP in Government the launch resources could have been directed towards maintaining the road to Lilongwe Bus Deport which is in bad shape?????

With other side of the mouth you brag over construction standard during the era you disown. The other day pa baya-baya, people said the with the same mouth in Chichewa, fake accent ex-reverend speaks like Mbenjele, with the same mouth and tongue, he mimick Obama. Woo unto you EMUSIPI hypocrites. We will never vote for you on 21 May 2019. You few votes will only come from viachewa vagule.
