Prophet Bushiri boosts Malawian Airlines

Proudly Malawian! In his quest to support local brands, Malawi’s prophet Shepherd Bushiri issued a directive to his international guests to use Malawian Airlines when coming for spiritual gatherings at his Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church in Lilongwe.

According to Bushiri, the directive is part of his vision to promote the country’s tourism sector  as he believes that it has much to offer to the deteriorating economy of the country and that as a church, their role in the economy pursuit is just as essential as any sector can play.

“The tourism sector has much to offer and I have seen it in a vision that tourism is another way that government can use to improve the economy of our nation and being a man of vision and love for my country, I felt my church, which receives a lot of international visitors can take lead in promoting local tourism and one way to do it was boosting Malawian Airlines which is doing very great now than before.

“S o with no shame, I indeed directed my international visitors to make Malawian Airlines their first choice when flying to and out of Malawi,” said Bushiri.

The sentiments came as over 40 visitors from neighbouring Tanzania were visiting the ECG for prayers and only used Malawian Airlines even on their return flight last Friday following the directive from the ‘man of God’.

In reaction to the news, Public Relations Officer for Malawian Airlines, Maganizo Mazeze, said that their company upholds the gesture and called for other institutions to emulate the same so that the country’s tourism industry grows from strength to strength.

“As an Airline, we believe that patriotism, like one demonstrated by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, is the only way that can help support the growth of tourism and the economy of the country,” he said, adding: ” We are grateful for the gesture from ECG.”

The prophetic church also received over 20 thousand visitors from across the world last year in December during an over night cross over sermon at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe.

One of the country’s tourism activist Dennis Imaan of Mangochi Tourism Consultant explained that churches such ECG which attract an enormous number of international visitors have a greater role to play in improving the country’s economy through tourism.

“Churches have a greater role to play when we talk of tourism because these visitors who came for spiritual consultation stay in hotels, buy local food, use local transportation, boost local mobile operators and they leave forex in our country,” said Imaan adding: “Nigeria has benefited a lot from T. B Joshua’s SCOAN and the government works closely with the church to facilitate visa application, accommodation, security and other related issues because in the end, the country benefits a lot and I believe if Malawi government could look at this issue with a sober reasoning the country might progress and enhance the economy.”

Bushiri also plans to re-launch his Prophetic Channel before September and assured Malawians that he will continue to support and endorse local brands.
