Prophet Mbewe faults govt on church gatherings not exceeding 50 people

Prophet David  Mbewe, Founder of the Living Word Evangelistic Church (Liwec ) whose headquarters is in Machinga has faulted the government over its decision to limit religious gatherings to 50 people.

Prophet David Mbewe: Why limiting church numbers but not market

Mbewe has written the Malawi government to revisit its directive that religious gatherings should not exceed 50 people.

But some Malawians have a different view altogether on the matter, asking the government to completely ban religious gatherings as well as drinking joints.

Mbewe questions why bars and markets are being allowed to remain open up to 5pm and 8pm respectively without stipulating numbers of people.

“What’s so special about limiting numbers of religious gatherings to 50 people? You may wish to note that most churches meet once a week while bars and markets open daily and enjoy patronage greater than churches do,” argues Prophet Mbewe.

He further wonders what wrong did the churches do to the current administration.

Government has vowed to strictly enforce newly announced Covid-19 preventive measures.

The country has lost prominent religious leaders in the country due to Covid-19.

Prophet Mbewe’s  – Shalom Mount Valley  in Machinga attracts well known personalities who visit to worship including former Minister for Disaster Management,  Everton Chimulirenji visited and worshipped in June 2019 when he had just been made  State Vice President.

Other notable figures who worships with Prophet Mbewe include controversial minister of Irrigation and governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional governor (South) Charles Mchacha, Walter Nyamilandu president of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and former parliamentarian Bertha Masiku.

That is the problem when a country has more loafers with nothing to show and the only chance they have to make money is opening up a church, it is high time government starts regulating these churches otherwise even mad people are opening up churches and claim to be Godly annointed, does this Mbewe just seek attention or what? useless so called prophets by the way that gift you claim to have many traditional healers also have it and it does not make you special, it is only those blind followers who make you special, bombocrat!

If the church members get the COVID, where will they get help? From government or the church? I wonder if this church has a hospital.

From God the Church & Government can’t help BUT God does. The fact that there is COVID-19 in our midst doesn’t mean that God has stopped to exist? He is the same God of the Past, Today & Eternity. Why can’t we look to God cos the Science that we trust most is letting us down??? He might be a False Prophet that O don’t know but the fact of the matter is that we need God more than never before. The problem is that God works with faith so if people don’t have faith in God can’t see how… Read more »

People are already looking up to God and still dying, that is why we must revert to the possible preventive measures unlike relying on imaginations (faith), which may not be guaranteed to everyone, be wise please!

‘prophet’ Mbewe ‘prophet’ Mbewe! His only worry is about the loss in revenue for himself from so-called church and not about the lives of Malawians. What contributions has he made towards the pandemic so far? Most likely nothing! Let the government not listen to stupid arguments by these flight-by-night and cash-strapped so-called churches but just implement what will benefit Malawians. Let the police arrest and charge all those that will be breaking the 50-people limit set by government. Shame on this so-called ‘prophet’ and many of his type.

For morals sake you cant compare a church, bar and market. Market is a social requirement which is controlled with the fact the standard if living doesnt allow everyone to have for starters fridges for storage of supplies, same also caters for the best part of the society who are surviving on hand to mouth. Bars which provide employment to a considerable no of people in the society are not supposed to form a gathering as per guidelines. These two require contact between customers and providers to survive, whilst there are so many ways to spread your word to your… Read more »
