Hundreds of people have marched in the northern region district of Rumphi to protest against the starvation of patients in Malawi’s public hospitals.

The peaceful protestors clad in black attire, organised by the district’s civil society network, blamed government for what they called “death of healthcare system.”

The protesters were also angry at what they say is reckless public spending by government while public hospitals suffer funding.

Civil society network chairperson Eunice Banda said the protestors want President Peter Mutharika to heed the cries of patients dying of hunger and lack of ambulances across the country.

They presented their petition to Francis Puleni, acting director at the district council, who said he will hand over to the President.

    1. typical quota reasoning by Khima @24.. You want these people to dig into their pockets to cover peter’s wastage and theft of our own taxes. these people are protesting against theft by DPP and you know that

  9. Stop relying on free food please you lazy people. What do you eat in your homes? Eat the same in the hospitals. There are many patients in our homes, what are they eating? You stupid politicians stop hiding under the issue of free hospital food.

  10. Testing the waters thinking that this Demo would escalate to other Districts to become a national issue. It has failed the acid test.

  11. Shameless DPP idiots on firefighting. The worst leader we have ever had as a country. You move maize from admarc thereby creating another problem. You guys are headless chickens. No wonder people call you and your president clueless. So tell me when this firefighting will stop? We may have a case very soon where the entire nation will be on fire and you and I know the end result is not pleasant. My advice, take it or leave it, please engage the opposition and other community leaders to solve some of the challenges the country is facing. I rest my case.

  16. Just as Government has increased fees in government secondary schools let it swallow its pride and declare that it shall no longer provide food to in patients. Read in the paper that Bamusi was in Rumphi to persuade the CSO s not to go ahead with the march. So what happened? May be he made a low and unattractive offer or amudyela. Gaffement is serious business anatelo a Tcheya

  19. A day can hardly pass without our government goofing. It is an open secret and clear that this current DPP government has failed to find solutions for many numerous problems rocking the country. Instead of acknowledge failure and seek alternative views from the opposition government is busy playing fiddle politics with lives of many Malawians. It is not about the question whether one is DPP, MCP or PP, all sane people can see that this government has failed. Even some notable DPP die hard are acknowledging that their party has failed to find solutions to the country and what they are waiting for is 2019 to come for next elections so that another can take over.
