Ralph Mhone, Chimbalanga, Mganda Chiume, Welani Chilenga defecting to MCP: Is MCP ‘sexy’ again?
Tongues are wagging in the country with regards to attractiveness of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) which, despite being the oldest party, is currently enjoying massive defections of senior politicians to its fold.
We can reliably confirm that Ephraim Mganda Chiumie, former DPP Deputy Secretary General and Cabinet Minister; Ralph Mhone, former Peoples Party (PP) Vice President; and DPP Member of Parliament for Chitipa South constituency Welani Chilenga are all defecting to the ruling DPP.
Another keynote politician defecting, we can confirm, is Mirriam Chimbalanga, composer of all DPP political who dumped her party and joined MCP.
Chmbalanga, a well-known DPP member of Sendera Sisters, is currently already on the ground campaigning for MCP. is joining other DPP gurus who have so far left the party in ‘search of greener pastures’.
These defections, however, are raising serious questions with regards to the attractiveness of MCP: Are these people being pushed by situations in their political parties or they are being pulled by the attractiveness of MCP?
Whatever the case is, 2024 is a year of surprises and so much will happen on the political front as politicians position themselves for the 2025 elections.
