Reverend Dr. Levi Nyondo   has won an unprecedented third consecutive term in office as general secretary for Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Livingstonia Synod.

He won with 206 votes against Rev. Timothy Nyasulu’s 109 votes.

The elections, dubbed “bloody and controversial”, were hampered with great political interference.

Nyondo told Nyasa Times after the elections that he was ” grateful to God.”

Reverend Joseph Mwale , who lost of on secretra general post when he came third, is new deputy general secretary with 82 votes. He was reelected.

Nyondo is a fierce critic of the government and there has  been reports that the Peter Mutharika administration was bankrolling Nyasulu to unseat him.

But Nyondo said he is sett to continue providing checks and balances to the State.

“We will continue to speak on behalf of the voiceless,” he said, “when government has done something good, as a church we will give credit.”

He said time for  elections are over and they need to work together.

Third term is sweet for GSs of synods when their turn comes. Surely Rev Nyondo has flows which may expected to come to an end. Surely his continuous appearance in the spotlite as man of God speaks volumes. Hope the awkward changes happening in the Synod will stop. Most Reverands are not visiting their flock but busy with money spinning or getting scholarships and attending meetings.

The fact is that Church leaders are also human beings as politicians,Rev.Nyondo has proved himself a dedicated God messenger and at the same time,a patriotic Malawian.Congratulations Rev.Nyondo for being re-elected overwhelmingly for third time in a roll. You are our an inspiring Desmond Tutu of Malawi and may God lead you to no temptation,AMEN!!! Of course, the Church will walk on the fine course,if it does object the unconstitutional endeavours of the President to run for a third term. There is nothing wrong with that Mr.Mnyakulele.Yes indeed,God has presence in the Church that’s why Rev.Nyondo enjoys baroque support from his congregation and ordinary… Read more »

CONGRATULATIONS TO REVEREND NYONDO AFTER ALL YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST IN THE HISTORY OF LIVINGSTONIA SYNOD. OTHERS MUST TAKE NOTE THAT REVEREND NYONDO HAS BEEN RE – ELECTED MAINLY TO CONTINUE WITH HIS FIGHT AGAINST DPP DISCRIMINATION OF THE NORTH WHERE THE LIVINGSTONIA SYNOD HAS A BIGGER PRESENCE. ONE OF REVEREND NYONDO’S NOTABLE FIGHTS IS THE STUPID, NEPOTISTIC AND DISCRIMINATORY QUOTA SYSTEM INTRODUCED BY THE ECCENTRIC LATE BINGU MUTHALIKA.PETER MUTHALIKA BROTHER TO BINGU SAID IT HIMSELF PRIOR TO 2014 GENERAL ELECTIONS THAT HE WILL ABOLISH THE QUOTA SYSTEM ONCE VOTED INTO POWER BUT AS WE ALL KNOW THE MUTHALIKA… Read more »

Kodi kumeneko ndiye amalora third term. It sounds hypocrisy that the same church would object if a politician talks of third term for the president.

You speak like Rev Maulana of BT Synod who was used by the DPP govt machinery to stop Rev Nyondo from contesting on a third term bid. Maulana is a shame because he allowed the state machinery to pitch BT synod against its sister synod, the Livingstonia synod. The difference between the third term of politicians and Nyondo’s is that the latter was not against the synod’s constitution. Maulana is a Lomwe just like DPP which had bankrolled his controversial ascendancy to the high office of BT synod.

I don’t think Rev Maulana spoke on behalf of BT synod. These days people respect not positions but rather the moral authority one has. The way the BT synod conducted its elections dented it’s moral authority.
