Review of 2017 TNM Super League: Champs KB date Wanderers in openor
The 2016 TNM Super League champions, Kamuzu Barracks date Mighty Be Forward Wanderers in the opening games of the 2017 season that kicks off this Saturday, May 6 and this will be the first league match at the new Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
When the two teams met last season, Kamuzu Barracks won 2-1 at home while the away game went to Wanderers with the same margin of 2-1. Wanderers finished the 2016 season on 6th position.
Last season’s runners-up Nyasa Big Bullets are also on the road in their opening assignments when they date debutantes Chitipa United at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday and against Moyale at the same venue 24 hours later.
Moyale, who finished 7th last season, drew 0-0 against Bullets both in the first and second rounds.
Third-placed Silver Strikers also travel when they date last season’s 13th-placed Wizards FC at Kamuzu Stadium and 8th-placed Azam Tigers at the same venue the following day while 4th-placed Blue Eagles host Mzuni FC at Nankhaka on Sunday.
Central Region Football League champions Masters Security travel to Chitowe Stadium to meet Dwangwa United, who finished 12th last season.
The other rookies, Blantyre United—Southern Region Football League champions, date Red Lions at Zomba Community Centre.
The other fixture, to be played on Sunday, is between last season’s 4th placed Mafco and 11th-placed Epac FC at Civo Stadium.
Kamuzu Barracks, who finished last season unbeaten at home, emerged champions for the first time in their third appearance in the league and they were also the highest scoring team with 55 goals. Nyasa Big Bullets and Mafco were also unbeaten at home last season.
Kamuzu Barracks scored the most home goals (36) while Mighty Wanderers scored the most away goals (22).
Players of the month were Gilbert Chirwa of Blue Eagles for April, Lughindiko Mushani of Mzuni F.C was for May, Thuso Paipi of Silver Strikers was for June, Peter Wadabwa was for July, September belonged to Richard Mbulu of Mafco, Kondwani Kumwenda of Nyasa Big Bullets for October while Harvey Mkacha was for November.
