As insecurity problem rages on in Malawi, a group of armed robbers in the capital Lilongwe beat the security detail and entered at a residence of Malawi’s Minister of Energy Mines and Natural Resources, Atupele Muluzi Friday night and went away with cash and some assorted item.
Lilongwe Police spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula says the robbers entered the house which is situated in Area 9 through a hole they made on the wall of the house.
According to Dandaula, Muluzi was left unhurt when the robbers found him inside his bedroom when they were searching for variables.
“So far only K30, 000 which was in bundles of K10, 000 and K20, 000 and three phones have been discovered stolen from inside the house,” he says.
He says the police have so far arrested two personal security guards for Muluzi for questioning.
Dandaula said the guards told the police that their hands were tied before the robbers started making a hole into the house wall.
“The way robbers operated, shows that they had full knowledge of the house,” says Dandaula, he not could tell the type of weapons the robbers used during their operation.
He said police has now intensified security patrols around the area to avoid similar occurrence.
Recently, robbers who included security detail, were caught at the residence of vice president Saulos Chilima.
