Robbers ransack offices of Malawi Council of Churches

A gang of six robbers on Monday night allegedly stole all computers including brand new ones at Offices of the Malawi Council of Churches (MCC).

The robbers, who tied up one guard and muffled his mouth with a handkerchief, cut open the burglar bars with hacksaws to gain entry.

The other three guards were reportedly asleep in another room.

MCC has since asked Malawians to join them in prayers so that operations at the Council are not heavily disturbed and that the equipment can be recovered and culprits brought to book.

Ironically, before going away with the loot, the robbers partied on MCC refreshments and snacks.

MCC Public Relations Officer Mthetho Lungu confirmed the development, saying this is the second time robbers have hit MCC offices.

Lungu said Police have launched a massive manhunt for the alleged robbers who overpowered the guard as they made way into the St. Thomas Anglican Church campus in Area 18A opposite Area 30’s Malawi Police Headquarters Gate 2.

“On 6th July 2013, robbers in the same fashion again over powered a guard at the premises and made their way through the same window using same means,” Lungu said.

The MCC Publicist said Area 18 Lingadzi Police have been informed and are currently interrogating four guards to lead them into investigations.
