Russell Mwafulirwa in suicide bid over ‘cheating’ wife -report

Malawi’s international striker Russell Mwafulirwa attempted to commit suicide over marriage crisis according to media reports from South Africa.

The Sunday World reported that Mwafulirwa allegedly drove into the brick wall of a top notch Joburg golf estate in South Africa opposite his home on Thursday night.

“Mwafulirwa, who had a series of violent matches with his wife Senzi, allegedly sought refuge in death when he “Schumachered” out of his love nest and rammed into the wall of the exclusive Eagle Canyon golf estate in Honeydew, western Joburg,” reported the publication.

The report said this happened after the player allegedly assaulted his South African wife, whom he accused of having extra maritial relationship.

Mwafulirwa; Crashed himself into one too.

The Malawian international, who was supposed to rejoin Jomo Cosmos after an unsuccessful stint in Sweden, has since vacated their marital home and is filing for a divorce, it was reported.

It is alleged this incident was not the first in which the lanky player “attempted to kill himself”.

The report said those close to the situation allege the player tried to set himself alight after dousing himself with paraffin.

But the paper said Mwafulirwa feigned surprise when contacted a few hours after the latest incident.

“Me? I don’t know what you’re talking about. This is a joke. I didn’t assault my wife and I didn’t hit any brick wall with my car.

“Maybe it was my cousin or somebody,” he said.

His wife however was quoted to confirm Mwafulirwa assaulted her, but said the matter was a domestic affair not for public consumption.
