Sanga gets party ticket to be Mzuzu City legislator

The  governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional governor (North) Kenneth Sanga  has been declared the winner of the party’s primary elections for Mzuzu City constituency following the withdrawal of his only competitor, Maggie Mwanza after losing at the first centre of Kavibale Primary School.

DPP regional governor Kenneth Sanga (r) with, Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe and other DPP officials

Mwanza was unavailable at the second centre of Chibavi Primary School, accusing Sanga of political intimidation.

Speaking on Times Radio, Mwanza said: ““It all started on Friday when a tinted Sienta vehicle followed me to where I was going to conduct a campaign rally. My driver stopped and asked why they were following us. The men responded that they wanted me. We then drove to the police station and reported the matter.”

However, Sanga has dismissed Mwanza’s claims, saying she is a bad loser, saying the party membership trust him.

DPP primaries have been marred by serious misunderstandings mainly because of alleged dubious electoral colleges and procedures.

The development has resulted in a faction of DPP demanding the resignation of secretary general Greselder Jeffrey for ‘messing’ up the elections

The incumbent Mzuzu City legislator Leonard Njikho  ditched DPP   and joined thw UTM party of State vice president Saulos Chilima.
