SDA church suspends pastor over sex scandal

Sex scandals continue to rock the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church as another pastor in Liwonde, Pastor Banda, has been suspended over allegations that he was caught pants down .

According to a report in Friday’s Weekend Times, General Secretary of the Seventh day South Field Luke Limbithu confirmed that the pastor was suspended to pave way for investigations.

“As a church, we have procedures that we follow and we have done just that. At the moment we are treating it as a rumour or just an allegation until we have gathered evidence that is when we are going to act on it,” Limbithu is quoted as having said.

When asked about incidents of similar nature in the past, Limbithu said they were still investigating, according to the tabloid.

“We are still investigating those cases because when we have that kind of information we treat it as just a rumour until there is evidence to prove otherwise,” he said.

Limbithu reportedly stunned the paper  hours after the interview when he called again remonstrating that he did not want to be quoted.

“Please I don’t want to be quoted in your story so don’t include me in your story, so don’t include my name because if you do I will take legal action,” he said.

In December last year, the ‘scandal sheet’  carried a story in which pastor Mark O’dala, resident pastor of Ndirande SDA was accused of snatching Andson Kazembe’s wife, Brenda Chona, after the pastor was asked to mediate in the family’s wrangle.

Kazembe wrote a letter complaining about the pastor’s actions and asked the church to act on it but the church says it is still investigating.

In January this year, the Weekend Times carried another sex scandal story involving Pastor Victor Kachola who is studying abroad but was involved with a married woman, Janet Nkhoma.

The scandal was revealed through e-mails that were being exchanged between the two which contained crispy and lewd details of their sex encounters and their plans to elope.
