Seventh-Day Adventist pastor Malopa’s car torched: Malawi Police hunt for suspects

Malawi Police in Ntcheu district are on the hunt for unknown people who on Monday torched to ashes a vehicle belonging to Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church pastor.

Gang burnt to ashes a Toyota Vitz for Pastor Malopa

The victim has been identified as a 69-year-old Benford Malopa of Chauluka village, T/A Njolomole in the district.

Ntcheu police Public Relations Officer, Hastings Chigalu told Nyasa Times the incident happened in the wee hours of Monday (January 23rd).

“They burnt his vehicle Toyota Vitz registration NB 3899 that was parked right in front of his house at Ntcheu postal lines,” explained Malopa.

Meanwhile, nobody has been arrested in connection to the incident as law-enforcers have intensified investigations to apprehend the culprits.

Police found a five litres container which was smelling paraffin and slippers which were identified to belong to one of the suspects.

“We promise to arrest the culprits. At a meantime the motive behind the arson is not known.”

If arrested, the suspects will be charged with Arson under Section 337 of the Penal Code.

chiheni your IQ is too low to think that a 69 year old servant of God might be flirtting with somebodys woman. thats unfair comment. shame on you. i wish you would have meet this pastor. he is not what you think. kumakhala ndi research yokwana before you utter such blasphemy to any church.

I see this at another angle. I will ask why five times. Crimes such as these don’t just happen. The motive was not to steal. Then what? SDA pastors are known for womanizing. I strongly believe as others will do suspect it was a husband of woman whom the Ps was flirting with. And the Ps should know him and alert Police.

Sorry my pastor I know u personally as a kind Man of God. ‘Am a C.C.A.P. christian but I really visited and charted with him one day. He has very good and kind advises. And hope his sons will do something.

Sorry pastor for this mishap. I have know Ps. Malopa as a very peaceful and kind person. Up to his retirement, the stories you hear about him is that he is a true servant of the God. However, this incident is disheartening. In his retirement comfort somebody just burns his car for no apparent reason. He definitely has a case to answer before judgment seat of God.
