Silver, agent trade barbs over transfer fee payment

Silver Strikers Football Club and and local football agent James Pondamale have embroiled in a battle over midfielder Ndaziona Chatsalira’s loan transfer fee to Ferroviario de Nampula of Mozambique.

The player penned a year long deal with the Mozambican outfit in January this year.

Silver Strikers General Secretary and Legal Representative Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda recently claimed in the media Pondamale is failing to honour the payment despite assuring the club he will pay the agreed
sum.

“The agent James Pondamale agreed to pay us $6,000 for Chatsalira, he has not honoured the agreement and has been elusive when we follow up on the payment,” Chakaka Nyirenda was quoted by the Daily Times.

But Pondamale refuted Chakaka Nyirenda’s claims in an interview with Nyasa Times.

He said the agreement was that the player pay the remaining part of the contract to the club by himself.

“The player himself agreed to pay the remaining part of his contract to the club and he made that in writing and the club Ferroviario agreed to transfer the agreed fee between the two in this case Chatsalira and Silver of which the club never sent that money” said Pondamale adding that the total amount for the deal was K3 Million.

He claimed that he has been pushing for the payment with Silver Strikers legal representative and after several attempts, he suggested he sought Football Association of Malawi (FAM’s) intervention.

“We all have been pushing for the cash me together with their legal representative of silver to a point I suggested we take the matter to FAM for intervention” Pondamale told Nyasa Times.

But Chakaka Munthali insists Pondamale is the one supposed to pay since he is the one who facilitated the deal and that a player cannot pay a transfer fee.

He revealed the club is now contemplating on a move to take a legal action.

“We haven’t received the fee provided by Ndaziona’s contract. We are contemplating legal action against the agent. The agent has displayed total disregard of professionalism. We have learnt the hard way and we
will not deal with him again and other teams should draw a lesson from us” explained Chakaka Nyirenda to Nyasa Times.

“I am Silver Strikers Legal Advisor and General Secretary. The Agent has never picked my calls nor has he responded to my emails” he added.

When Nyasa Times contacted Pondamale again on Saturday, he turned down the claims and indicated the new Silver Strikers General Secretary doesn’t even have his number.

“Bro [meaning brother]…am busy with my other businesses and not interested to be in a war of words with people who understand little about football. He should first learn how football business is conducted then he wil understand the whole concept in the transaction that happened between them (Silver) and Ndaziona…and but then he wasn’t around it was the former administration” Pondamale wondered.

Chatsalira who is currently back home refused to comment when contacted by Nyasa Times via Whatsap recently.

“I will speak when I get back home” briefly wrote  Chatsalira.

He is now back home but yet to speak out on the matter.

Pondamale previously facilitated a number of deals for Malawian players in Mozambican league such as John Banda, Chawanangwa Kaonga, Frank Banda, Green Harawa and Charles Swini among others.
