Silver beat Civo on Christmas eve showdown
Silver Strikers presented a perfect Christmas gift to their fans in style on Saturday after defeating their city rivals Civo United 2-1 in the elite TNM Super League.
In a dull encounter, which took place at Silver Stadium in Area 47, the Civil servants were first to open the score sheet courtesy of their man of the moment Martin Masoatheka.
However, a few minutes later, the Bankers equalized through a volley from Jester Mulima before scoring a winning goal through a beauty from Peter ‘Pido’ Pindani.
The Bankers could have scored more than five goals but Rodrick Gonani and Tonny Chitsulo were too wasteful on the Area 3 giants.
Civo United tried to come back into the game through Dave Ng’ambi, who was a marvel to watch but time was not on their side.
Silver Strikers assistant mentor Hellings Mwakasungura described their victory as a Christmas gift to their fans.
“I am delighted with today’s victory because it has come at the right time as we are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ,” said Mwakasungura.
His counterpart for Civo United ‘Sir’ Alex Masanjala conceded defeat but vowed to fight on until they grab the championship.
