Silver go top, Bullets in double win

Big Bullets had a fruitful week over the weekend when they managed to collect six points against the soldier’s out-fits and climbed five steps on the log table in the elite TNM Super League.

The Peoples team, who are now occupying position eight from 12 managed to beat Moyale Barracks 3-0 on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium before a 1-0 margin to Cobbe Barracks in Zomba.

In Saturday’s encounter, Bullets netted their scores through Jeresi Lufeyo, Robson Banda and Luke Jere.

Bullets have 32 points from 23 games now, a point behind their arch rivals Might Wanderers, who have 33 points from 20 games.

Big Bullets coach, Edington Ng’onamo was overwhelmed with his boys by describing their victories as a stepping stone to stay far away from the relegation zone.

“This is just the beginning and teams should expect tough matches against us. It is not a joke to play two matches in two days and at the same time being able to collect maximum six points, so the credit should go to my boys,” said Ng’onamo.

As Bullets were beating Cobbe in the old capital city, it was a different story in the capital city as Silver Strikers climbed on the summit table of the league after walloping visiting Zomba United by 8-0.

The Bankers, who have 35 points, the same as Blantyre United have a better goal aggregate having scored their 8 goals against Zomba United through Jester Mulima with a hat-trick, Rodrick Gonani with a brace, Clement Mvula, Asedi Ayami and Harvey Nkacha.

However, it was an unsuccessful trip for Moyale Barracks, who lost both of their matches to Big Bullets and Escom United in the commercial city.

The Standard Bank Cup finalists failed to play their usual grass cutter football with the absence of their marksman Gastin Simkonda, who is with the Flames in Tanzania.

The Soldiers, who were pinned 3-0 to Bullets failed to recover the previous day as Escom United courtesy of their vast experienced striker Heston Munthali and Spencer Chapantha electrocuted them before Weld Nkuliwa pulled one back.
