Son kills mother in Malawi: At large

Police in Blantyre are hunting for Maganizo Mtambo aged 18 from Kameza Village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in the district on suspicion that he assaulted his biological mother to death, Erico Mabuka Mtambo.

Mtambo 57, died in the morning hours of Friday last week at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) whilst receiving medical treatment  after being brutally assaulted by her son.

Blantyre Police Spokersperson, Lameck Themnbachako said Awali Mkwera who hails from the same area told the police at Ndirande sub-station that on February 22, around 17:30hours, the two (the son and the mother) had a quarrel that resulted in the son severely assaulting his mother who fainted on the spot.

“This happened in Ndirande Township in the city of Blantyre and suspect escaped the same day just after committing the offence and his whereabouts are not yet known.murder-scene-300x225

“Mtambo (the deceased) was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital after being given medical referral letter from police.  She was admitted at the hospital until the day she passed away on Friday,” said Thembachako.

He said after conducting post-mortem and examination on Mtambo’s remains at the Hospital, results showed that she died due to severe head and spinal injuries.

The police have said Maganizo will answer murder charges once apprehended.
