SOZOBAL to hold ‘Gala Night Awards’  February 24

The much awaited Southern Zone Basketball (SOZOBAL) Gala Night for the 2017/2018 season will be on Saturday (February 24 2018) at College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre.

According to the organisers of the event  the Gala Night which has been organised with the aim of awarding the most outstanding teams and individuals who had a marvelous performance in the 2017/2018 season is expected to start at exactly 17:00 PM.

In an interview with Nyasa Times Marketing Manager of the organising committee Jemimah Chilunga said preparation for the event are now at an advanced and that people should expect a colourful event.

She also revealed that as SOZOBAL they decided to organise the Gala Awards inorder to have special time to appreciate the great talent shown by the players, coaches and teams as well as to encourage them
to keep on focusing and working hard.

“We always believe that awarding outstanding performers helps a lot in making every competition either a tournament or league to be competitive since players or teams who finished poorly in the previous seasons are motivated to have a fighting spirit so that they can also be a winner in the following season. It is just very unfortunate that we are hosting the event in February but our target was to hold it early January but we hard to shift it to this date due to financial problems and we are very happy that long at last the event is now set,” said Chilunga.

Some of the categories who are going to be awarded during the Gala Night include; winners of Ladies league, Division 1 and 2 men winners ans basketball player of the year.

According to Chilunga before the Gala Night SOZOBAL inconjunction with Oday Event Management will also host a basketball tournament on Saturday at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) called ‘3 On 3 Basketball
Tournament’ whose aim is to raise money which will be used to renovate the BYC basketball drainage system and some will be used to buy basketball balls for Secondary Schools in the Southern Zone.

“At this event people will have to form a team of five and should have at least two ladies in each team. Furthermore, they will be kid’s activities like jumping castle, sports trivia, kid’s one-on-one basketball game just to mention a few and Winners of the tournament will be awarded with cash, medals, trophies and other prizes. This event will attract over 250 business and professionals both men and women.
“We expect to have atleast 30 teams during this tournament,” said Chilunga.
