Speaker says ‘we don’t have DPP government’ but Malawi govt
Speaker of Parliament, Richard Msowoya clarified in the National Assembly that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is currently a ruling party and not a DPP government.
The Speaker made the clarification when Zomba Changalume MP, Johns Chikalimba of Peoples Party (PP) , on a point of order, querried Member of Parliament(MP) for Mulanje Bale Victor Musowa for saying “we in the DPP government.”
Querried Chikalimba: “Mr Speaker, Sir, is it in order for the Honourable Member to claim that ‘we in DPP government’ when we all belong to the same government? Does he know the difference between government and party? Maybe if he had said we in the DPP party, it would have made sense. But he said ‘we in DPP government’. Then, where are we ourselves?.”
The Speaker then clarified:” We don’t have a DPP government but we have the Malawi Government. So, DPP is a ruling party of that government.”

The Speaker seems not to know what he’s talking about here. How much formal education did he really acquire? And, hasn’t he traveled to other countries, in his role as Speaker, and observed the political culture including that is expressed in the media? The hon. MP Musowa from Mulanje seems to be on right track here. We read in the internet media all the time about – the Frelimo government in Moz – the ANC government in SA – the Conservative government in the UK – the Liberal government in Canada MP Musowa was not saying Malawi is a DPP… Read more »
If this were true, the majority party would listen to ALL MPs, and not see the oppositions as out to undermine them. The mature adult listens to criticism and uses it to improve. Democracies should do the same: whatever party they belong to, they should be working for the betterment of their people, their country.
In Malawi ruling party equals government and vice versa. The president of Malawi can even use state resources for DPP activities.
So when they say ”Boma ili ndi lakuba” amatanthauza Kamlepo ndi Chikalimba yemwe?
