Splash on! Geoffrey Kapusa joins Mibawa TV
Just weeks after being fired by the public broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporations (MBC), renowned and seasoned presenter, Geoffrey Kapusa has joined private television, Mibawa TV.
Kapusa popularly known as Mr. Splash was booted out of MBC last month after he publically criticized management for being overboard with its propaganda in favor of the ruling party Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) which he claimed contributed to its shameful loss in the October 2017 by-elections.
Kapusa confirmed of his new job on social media and never wasted time to poke fun at his former employers.
“Great Lord. Am speechless of your love and care for me and my family. Thank you for the Job offer at Mibawa TV, the only Malawi tv soap producers of Mwachande and Chinganingani,” wrote Kapusa.
“Thank you John Nthakomwa and family and also a special mention to Wellington Kuntaja for your great decision to have me. My God is an awesome God. All the time.”
Ironically, MBC airs the Mwachande series which are produced by Mibawa TV.
Kapusa worked for MBC for over 15 years. He once resigned to venture into a minibus business only to return to the media fold.
MBC management on December 22nd, 2017 decided to fire Kapusa after he accused them of giving deaf ear to his advice about the propaganda favoring DPP.
He was first banned from hosting any program on MBC TV or radio following his post on Facebook in October last year in which he accused the station for contributing to DPP’s loss in the by-elections that were won by opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
He wrote: “Who to blame. Not MBC of course. When I lectured them kuti your propaganda is childish, I was banned from TV appearance. A losing team. Vote of no confidence. Apologise to the ruling party. This is unprecedented. Mumamunamiza President. Shame. Now can I talk to you guys and you do the listening? You still have 2019 by election coming. Don’t quit!” wrote Kapusa.
I don’t think that it’s a clever move, why a line fight? What for exactly? MBA is the mouthpiece of the government of the day regardless of who or which party is in power. MCP, UDF, DPP, PP, DPP have all done this & who do you think will do things differently guys? Let’s be realistic this is Africa, you can’t expect the so called Public Broadcaster whose board of directors are appointed by the president to be criticising the incumbent president or his party it can’t just happen. So Mr Kapusa, I don’t know what he wanted to achieve.… Read more »
Point of correction at no time did Kapusa resign from MBC. The first time he was fired by Malopa and he had to drive a mini-bus for his survival. When Malopa was fired by Joyce Banda the boy was brought back to MBC. Frankly speaking the boy is stupid and dull because Muluzi sent him to school to study journalism in the UK, but the boy is ran away. He only spent one month and returned to Malawi because he could not understand anything in class- probably the course was too tough for him. He though Muluzi would continue to… Read more »

Things fall apart. Ife a Malawi oganiza tinasiya kalekale kuonera Mutharika Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) because of stupidity. MBC is still backward. You can see the difference between MBC on one hand and Zodiak and Times TV on the other. Zodiak and Times TVs are indeed eye openers to Malawians. They are never biased. They are indeed true professionals. Even in the way Times and Zodiak beam soccer matches they are far much a head of MBC the first tv station in Malawi. Shame.
Are we still watching and listening to MBC these days? Big up Bwana Kapusa. Simungasowe ntchito mtown muno.
How surprising that the DPP led government fails to see that Sumbuleta is slowly but surely contributing to the down fall of this government. In the 2 years that he has been at MBC as CEO he has antagonized countless families by sleeping with married women at MBC, promising them promotions and trips to China.. Out of fear and insecurity he has fired close to 18 people for no sound and justifiable reason. He has suddenly amassed himself wealth through the procurement section which he uses to steal funds. Recently he recommended the promotion of one Singano to Director of… Read more »
Dpp can see nothing wrong in what MBC is doing because they want to be told what they want. So to them (dpp) this is democracy. To them democracy means public media should demonize opposition parties. To them democracy mean public media should demonize non governmental organizations critique of dpp administration. To them democracy mean the public media should publicize lies. Tionana 2019.
Bravo man Kapusa.
What would you do if it were you?
