Standard Bank Cup finals slated for Dec 11

The Standard Bank knock-out cup final will be played on December 11, according to a statement from the bank released over the weekend.

The statement says the sponsors have agreed to a Football Association of Malawi suggestion that the final be played on December 11 due to a tight programme on both parties that include the Flames and under 20’s commitments in the Cecafa senior challenge cup in Tanzania and the Metropolitan Cosafa youth championship in Botswana.

There was confusion last week as to when the final will be played after disagreements arose between all parties with others favouring November 26 others December 3 as a good date for the final.

The dust over the issue has now been settled and the bank says the December 11 date is ideal as it also gives soccer fans enough time to continue voting for the venue of where they want the final to be played,their player of the tournament and the best electronic and print journalists in the competiton.

The statement also says that the bnk is so far happy with the levels of competition in this years showpiece with its new knockout format.

Blue Eagles are in a final of a competiton for the first in 16 years and will fight for honours with defending champions Moyale who have declared total war come 11 December.

Two players are fighting for the top scorer award,John Banda of Blue Eagles and Kumbukani Mwambeni of Red Lions with three goals each.
