Standard Bank Malawi kits out quarter-finalists

Standard Bank Malawi, sponsors of the K25 million Standard Bank Football Cup have raised the tempo ahead of the weekend quarterfinal clashes with a presentation of high quality uniforms to the eight teams battling for the stakes.

The uniform presentation took place Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Standard Bank head office in City Centre, Lilongwe, where the sponsors urged the participating teams to practice fair play and adhere to the football rules.

“It has been our tradition to dress the participating teams since we started sponsoring the competition and we are here again to present uniforms to the eight quarterfinalists. This is also one way of making the competition colourful and exciting and it is our wish to see the competition progressing smoothly.

“We thank FAM for administering the play-offs prudently and the teams and fans for behaving well and we hope all the teams and their followers will continue observing the spirit of fair-play and rules of the game. As a bank that is moving forward, we do not condone violence- that’s why we launched the respect campaign with Fam,” said Standard Bank’s communications officer Madalitso Jonazi during the presentation.

Fam executive member James Mwenda hailed the bank for living up to its word to present uniforms to the participating teams.

“A good chunk of the teams’ budgets goes towards the purchase of uniforms and this gesture from our sponsors cannot be taken for granted. As Fam, we will make sure the competition goes on smoothly and we are going to take drastic measures against anyone, who will try to put the beautiful game into disrepute,” warned Mwenda.

A Big Bullets official, Austin Kasito commended Standard Bank for the timely gift: “These are high quality uniforms and as Bullets we will make sure we go all the way to the final to make full use of this uniform,” said Kasito.

The uniforms include 16 jerseys, pairs of shots as well as socks and teams that have benefited include Silver Strikers, Big Bullets, Blantyre United, Mighty Wanderers, Red Lions, Civo, Kamuzu Barracks and Moyale Barracks.

The quarterfinals start this Saturday (October 19) with Civo hosting Big Bullets at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe and Silver Strikers visiting Blantyre United at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.
