Standard Bank sends outstanding employees on luxury boat cruise in Europe
Standard Bank Malawi has sent four of its outstanding employees on a luxury boat cruise to Europe as a token of appreciation for their excellent performance in 2014.
The four are Dora Mangulama, Ben Chakachadza, Bamusi Mapfupa and Charles Namanja Jnr. They excelled in their respective areas of expertise of Customer Service and Sales under PBB.
Head of Personal and Business Banking (PBB) Margaret Kubwalo-Chaika said the luxury boat cruise is an annual initiative of the Standard Bank Group aimed at motivating excellence in individual performance under the bank’s PBB ‘Mark of Excellence Awards’
She said the four Malawians joined 120 other winners from Standard Bank group operations in Africa aboard the ‘Allure of the Seas’ cruise ship between Barcelona in Spain to Rome, in Italy.
“As an employer of choice for choice employees, Standard Bank recognizes excellent individual efforts that contribute to the overall success of the bank’s business. We have set the bar very high and for anyone to win the Excellence Awards under PBB, which uses a group rating matrix means that they’re indeed outstanding in the business,” said Kubwalo-Chaika.
The PBB head said the Excellence Awards rating matrix measures Innovation, Making Standard Bank Best Workplace, Customer Service, Sales Excellence, Efficiency and Leadership Excellence.
“Let me therefore join the rest of the Standard Bank Malawi family to congratulate these four performers, and wish them a safe adventure during their cruise. By winning in the Excellence Awards, these four have become a model of excellence to other employees in the bank, and our hope is that this opportunity will inspire them to scale even greater career heights within the bank,” she said.
And commenting on the awards, which measured performance for 2014, Standard Bank Group CEO for PBB (Rest of Africa) Zweli Manyathi said; “We appreciate the role that our partners play in giving us support throughout the year. It is only proper, that when we achieve the honours and get recognised as top performers, they are part of this recognition and celebration.”
Previous outstanding performers travelled to Cape Town, South Africa where they experienced Table Mountain and other adventures.
I think as much as the bank should reward its staff, this European cruise thing is off base. This is a luxury, even many with good jobs in diaspora, cannot afford. In the broad picture, a cruise like this becomes an event without a legacy. Standard Bank should not just force its employees to fit themselves into certain frames, like the cruise. They should ask the employees for preferences. If the whole trip cost, say, K3 million, I would not be surprised if some of these winners would rather take the cash. And use it towards a legacy project like… Read more »

Lending rates too much Standard Bank. That is almost daylight theft. With our own poverty i think it is important to be a bit considerate. Yes you are in bussiness but mind you, you have also a corporate social responsibility. All the best those that have made it. So long there wasn’t nepotism, favouritism and the like.
Thats what we as employers do…provide carrots and they will work hard. Make them climb a corporate ladder that leads nowhere…of course they will make money for the employer who spends most of the time sipping champaign in the cruise. Create your own ladders to climb!!! Dont be like horrible civil servants who have mastered the art of stealing without leaving evidence…how can a full graduate spend much of their productive time working for the hopeless government…I rest my case…nice boat ride guys
