State House confirms Chupa’s contract terminated
State House has confirmed that government terminated the contract of Mrs. Linda Banda Chupa, wife to senior ‘ruling’ People’s Party (PP) official, Peter Chupa.
Presidential spokesman Steve Nhlane confirmed in response to a Nyasa Times questionnaire on Mrs Chupa’s services being terminated after reports of theft of State House property, fraud and dubious dealings in housekeeping supplies at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre where she was based.
“She was not fired. She asked for leave of absence to attend to some private matters, but there was no provision for that in her contract. So on mutual agreement with her employer she was allowed to leave, meaning that her contract had to be terminated. So she left on her request,” Nhlane told Nyasa Times.
Mrs Chupa is niece to Malawi’s First Gentleman Richard Banda and was recruited into State House by President Joyce Banda soon after ascending to power in April, 2012.
Meanwhile, other reports indicate that her husband Peter Chupa has also been stopped by the ‘ruling’ PP from contesting as parliamentary candidate in Ndirande Central Constituency where Minister of Information Brown Mpinganira’s son, Chipiliro Mpinganjira is aspiring to run on PP ticket.
